The Yale School of Art, in collaboration with the Center for Collaborative Arts and Media (CCAM), is pleased to announce its inaugural postgraduate fellow: Alvin Ashiatey, Graphic Design MFA ’22.
The fellowship is a new, yearlong position that supports key community engagement, operations, and research activities at CCAM. From providing guidance to innovative student projects to contributing to the implementation of interdisciplinary public programming, Ashiatey will be a fully engaged member of CCAM’s team. The fellowship includes a focus on the technologies available in CCAM’s Blended Reality Lab, which is dedicated to emerging media, and the Leeds Studio, featuring motion-capture and projection-mapping systems. As such, Ashiatey will build new skills to incorporate into his creative practice and to share with others.
The fellowship also includes mentorship by CCAM Assistant Director Lauren Dubowski and the center’s team. Dubowski shares, “CCAM is thrilled to be working with our partners at the Yale School of Art on this fellowship. Alvin is a talented artist, a generous collaborator, and an inspiring leader who brings countless ideas, skills, and possibilities to our communities. We are excited about the impact he will make here this year, and for how it will fuel his own creative and professional development.”
This opportunity was open by application and interview to recent Yale School of Art graduates from the past two graduating MFA classes. Through this full-time, one-year position, Ashiatey, in his role as postgraduate fellow, will work at the Center for Collaborative Arts and Media from September 2022 through August 2023.

About CCAM
Yale’s Center for Collaborative Arts and Media (CCAM) activates creative research and practice across disciplines to advance the cultural landscape of our time. We initiate and support work that adopts and investigates approaches from the arts, architecture, engineering, the sciences, and more. We regularly present our discoveries to the public in dialogue and partnership with the university, New Haven, and the world.
CCAM’s Blended Reality Lab is home to the Blended Reality project, an applied research grant that supports ideas that operate at the intersection of real and virtual worlds. It draws upon our center’s role in connecting the arts and sciences through experimental technology and collaborative research. It is underwritten through a hybrid structure of academic, industry, and applied research support, including an ongoing partnership with Hewlett Packard (HP).
