AUGUST LETTER COMMENTS
From reading your letter it’s a little unclear which direction you see you thesis developing in. However, I get the sense you are still working this out. I certainly do see the raising and answering of questions in your working process but also view your work as being somewhat concerned with a testing of the limits of something. In your inquiries there is often an extension to the utmost point, be it scale, medium, technology, format. Perhaps it is more about the posing of a hypothesis extended to it’s maximum, than a process of questioning and answering.
??Andrew
It is clear that your process begins with a line of questioning. However, I still find myself getting lost in understanding the relationship between questioning and the examples you gave. Each example expressed another interest, which felt a little scattered. I think it would help the reader if you prefaced each example with a clearer explanation of that particular interest (media, language, etc.). Your usage of the term media? needs to be clearly defined; reason being is that the term media? changes its meaning depending on the context that it is placed in. I kind of understand where your placing this term but it still needs some framing.
Do your ??finished? projects ever feel complete or are they just part of a process of investigation?
Also, I would be interested to read what you would want your audience to get out of your work . . .
You mentioned ??remixing process? in the beginning of your letter . . . I wonder whether this term can help ground the reader in your articulation of your work and process.
??Daniel
I do think questioning can be an important and specific aspect of your thesis but this version of the text was definitely too broad. It would be nice to bring it into your new ideas about “watching back”: “with eyes wide open,” as Copernicus wrote…
