Ryan Hill, Artist and Performer

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Mr. Hill received a B.A. in art and history from UC Santa Cruz in 1985, a M.A. in film and television – history and theory from UCLA in 1987, and a M.F.A from California Institute of the Arts in 1992. His early projects were site-specific installations and performances in nonprofit, academic, and museum venues. These ongoing collaborations included working with artist John Fleck (1990-2000) and the group SHRIMPS (1989–2001). His solo work is represented by Civilian Art Projects in Washington DC and his drawing installations and video projections have been show abroad as part of group shows. Since 1996 Mr. Hill has worked in a variety of contemporary art museums focusing on the role of interpretation, leading workshops at national museums, and presenting at international conferences. Mr. Hill was appointed critic in sculpture at Yale in 2016.
