Michelle Lopez

Ms. Lopez earned a B.A. in literature and art history from Barnard College in 1992 and an M.F.A. from the School of Visual Arts in 1994. She has had solo exhibitions with Feature Inc., Deitch Projects, Simon Preston Gallery, LAXArt, Gallery Paule Anglim (San Francisco), Fondazione Nicola Trussardi (Milan), Christophe Gaillard (Paris), and Aldrich Contemporary Museum of Art. Notable group exhibitions include MoMA PS1, Public Art Fund, Bass Museum of Art, Orange County Museum of Art California Biennial, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, and the Brooklyn Museum. Ms. Lopez has been reviewed in Artforum, New York Times, Art in America, Frieze, and Newsweek. She received a New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) fellowship grant in sculpture (2011), UC Berkeley research grants (2002–5), and NYFA fiscal sponsorship (2009). She was previously an assistant professor of sculpture at UC Berkeley and headed the sculpture division in both undergraduate and graduate studies. She has also taught in the M.F.A. Fine Arts program at the School of Visual Arts and in the Bard M.F.A. program. Ms. Lopez was appointed lecturer in sculpture in 2012.
