Julia Born, Graphic Designer

Ms. Born is a Swiss designer living in Amsterdam. She studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie from 1996 to 2000 receiving a diploma. She then worked on several projects and publications between Switzerland and The Netherlands, for clients such as the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen Rotterdam, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Swiss Federal Office of Culture, Bern/CH, Casco – Office for Art, Design and Theory, Utrecht/NL, Metropolis M – Contemporary art magazine. Apart from commissioned work she has collaborated with other designers and artists, such as fashion designer JOFF (A Red Skirt, 2003, One To One, 2007), or performer Alexandra Bachzetsis (Secret Instructions, 2005). Work of her was shown in the exhibitions Graphic Design in the White Cube, Brno/CZ 2006; Dutch Resource, Chaumont/F 2005, Handmade, Postercollection Museum für Gestaltung Zürich 2005; Cool School, Gallery of Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design, Prague/CZ 2005; Mark, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam/NL 2004; Invitation Nº 75, SMBA Amsterdam/NL 2003. In 2002 she was a tutor graphic design at the école cantonale d’art de Lausanne/CH. From 2003 she teaches graphic design at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and in 2007 she was a project tutor at the Werkplaats Typografie Arnhem. From 2003–2007 she was a jury member for The most beautiful Swiss books. She was appointed critic in graphic design at Yale in 2008.
