Jonathan Puckey, Graphic Designer
Webpage: http://www.jonathanpuckey.com/

Jonathan Puckey is an Amsterdam based designer and programmer. Describing the computer as a tool for making tools, he disregards the predetermined limitations of existing software. Instead, he develops custom tools, that he uses to realize his projects. He is an active contributor to open source projects such as Scriptographer and Paper.js. In 2012 he co-founded the Amsterdam based design and technology studio Moniker with Roel Wouters and Luna Maurer. With Moniker, the designers strive towards establishing a balance between investing in autonomous and experimental projects and working on projects of a more commercial, applied nature. Their focus lies on designing processes within which the act of creation takes place, allowing the audience to participate in the completion of the artwork and the artwork to visualize its inner organizational process. Next to his appointment as critic in the field of graphic design at the Yale University School of Art, he teaches Interaction design at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. Jonathan Puckey is member of Conditional Design, a collaborative experimental playground that focusses on designing processes rather than products. In the spring of 2013, a book will be published with the same title that acts as a workbook containing a manifesto and workshops that have previously been published online is complemented by texts of a contextualizing, theoretical nature. Mr. Puckey was appointed critic in graphic design at Yale in 2009.
