Derek Fordjour, Critic

Derek Fordjour is a graduate of Morehouse College in Atlanta Georgia, earned a Master’s Degree in Art Education from Harvard University and an MFA in painting at Hunter College. He has completed residences at Sugarhill Children’s Museum (2016) and Sharpe Walentas Studio Program in New York City (2017). He was awarded the 2018 Deutsche Bank NYFA Fellowship Award. Mr. Fordjour has received commissions for public projects from The Whitney Museum of Art and for a permanent installation with the Metropolitan Transit Authority Arts & Design in New York City. His work has been reviewed and featured in the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Hyperallergic and Forbes Magazine. His work has shown in various venues including the Taubman Museum (Roanoke, VA), MOCAD (Detroit, MI) and the Whitney Museum. He is currently represented by Night Gallery in Los Angeles and Josh Lilley Gallery in London. Mr. Fordjour was appointed critic in 2018.
