Christian Curiel, Critic

Christian Curiel is an artist who’s painting, drawings, and sculptures have been exhibited in various solo and group exhibitions in galleries and museums in the United States and abroad. Some notable exhibitions include: Jen Reve, Foundation Cartier pour l’art contemporain in Paris, France, Globe Miami Island ,The Bass Museum of Art in Miami Beach, Florida, The Cintas Fellowship Award, The Americas Society, El Museo’s Bienal: The (S) Files 2011, El Museo Del Barrio in New York City to name a few. His collected works belong to several private, public and corporate collections, namely the The Perez Art Museum in Miami, FL, Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain in Paris, France and various private collection both national and internationalIy. In addition his works have been part of prestigious exchange programs and residencies such as the Art in Embassies Program in Brasilia, Brazil and community engaged murals and installations in economically challenged communities both in the United States and abroad. Some residencies include: Cooper Union Teaching Artist in Residence, The Cooper Union, School of Art, New York, NY, Gitana Del Mar, Santa Marta, Colombia, and Visiting Artist in Residence, Cannonball Arts Residency (formally Legal Arts Residency) Miami, Fl.

Christian Curiel was head professor of drawing, design and portfolio preparation at New York Art Studio and adjunct lecturer of Art History at Broward College in Miami, FL. Curiel is the recipient of numerous prestigious awards and honors, including the Cintas Fellowship Prize and the Robert Schoelkopf Traveling Fellowship from Yale University School of Art. Christian Curiel was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico to Cuban parents in 1977. He received a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting from the Yale School of Art in New Haven, Connecticut in 2005. The artist currently lives and works in New Haven, CT, and Miami, Florida
