PHOTOGRAPHY Art 861, Writing and the Visual Arts
A workshop in applying text to a visual arts practice. It proceeds from weekly readings (all written by practicing visual artists) and weekly writing assignments, most of an experimental variety, in which visual arts projects are welcome as part of the assignment, toward a final project in which the students write individually about their own practice. In addition to helping students feel comfortable with writing, the class also works as an intensive study of conceptual practice—how to problem solve creatively, and how to use conceptual thinking as an ally, in a field of creative endeavor.
