This seminar examines a broad survey of important American films, exploring the common language of film and contemporary art, both powerful image-makers and objects of material culture. Motion pictures share a role with art creating narratives and semblance, conveying identity and crafting visual expression. Works to be screened: Keaton, Ford, Huston, Wilder, Mankiewicz, Hitchcock, Malick, Sirk, Coppola. Daphne Fitzpatrick
