PAINTING/PRINTMAKING Art 010, Mastering the Art of Watercolor

This introductory course, open to seasoned artists and beginners, teaches the fundamentals of watercolor painting. The goal is to learn to paint en plein air and to render color, form, perspective, composition, and shade and shadow. Each week students paint watercolors and also analyze the works of such artists as J.M.W. Turner, John Singer Sargent, Maurice Prendergast, and Edward Hopper. Scholarly readings and a brief term paper are required. Preregistration required through the Freshman Seminar Program.
