Ann Craven, Painter

Ann Craven was born and grew up in Boston, Massachusetts. She attended Massachusetts College of Art and subsequently received an MFA from Columbia University School of the Arts in 1994. From 1992 to 1998, she worked as a studio assistant to Alex Katz. She was awarded the Rosenthal Foundation Young Painter Prize by The American Academy of Arts and Letters in 1997, and in 2002 the International Association of Art Critics, USA (AICA New England) First Place Best Monographic Show in a Commercial Gallery.

Craven has been a Visiting Artist at the Art Institute of Chicago Graduate School of the Arts (2007); University of Tennessee Knoxville (2007); New York University Graduate School of the Arts (2006); Hunter College Graduate Program (2005); Cranbrook Academy Graduate School of the Arts (2005); Rutgers University Graduate Painting Department (2001); New York University, Tisch School for the Arts Painting Program (1999); and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (1998). In 2000 she completed an artist residency at the Académie des Beaux-Arts, Fondation Claude Monet, Giverny, France. She has been an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Columbia University School of the Arts (2005–06); a Visiting Professor at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (2001–04); and is currently a Visiting Lecturer at Yale University School of Art.

In June of 2008 Ann Craven will have her first solo museum exhibition at the Fonds Régional d’Art Contemporain (FRAC) Champagne-Ardenne, Reims, France, where she completed an artist residency in Fall of 2007. In autumn 2008, she will have a solo exhibition at the Delaware Center for Contemporary Art. Also in 2008, she will be a Visiting Artist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Center for Advanced Studies, the Maryland Art Institute and the Pacific NorthWest School of Art. She will participate, with Tony Conrad, Leslie Hewitt, and Haim Steinbach, in the forthcoming panel discussion, Repetition at Yale University School of the Arts, moderated by Matt Keegan.

Ann Craven resides and works in New York City.
