Adam Van Doren, Painter

Mr. Van Doren received both a B.A. in 1984 and an M.Arch. in 1990 from Columbia University; and has also studied at the National Academy of Design. Van Doren has been a Visiting Artist at the American Academy in Rome, a Lustman Fellowship Lecturer at Yale University, and an instructor at the Institute for Classical Architecture. He has exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C., among other institutions; and his work is included in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Addison Gallery of American Art, the Princeton University Art Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the Yale University Art Gallery, and the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, among others. A monograph of his work was published by Hudson Hills Press, and he maintains a studio in Manhattan. He is also the author of an Artist in Venice, and The House Tells the Story: Homes of the American Presidents. Mr. Van Doren is an Associate Fellow in Yale College and was appointed lecturer in the School of Art in 2017.
